Roskilde, one of Denmark's oldest cities, is a major economic centre west of Copenhagen. Roskilde has been around since viking times and has a population of about 45,000.

Roskilde Festival is one of Denmark's largest festivals. Known for its non-stop music, there's also cinema, skateboarding, art and the spoken word. Roskilde Cathedral is a UNESCO world heritage site, dramaticlly situated on a ridge near the Roskilde fjord. Roskilde Cathedral is a mausoleum for the Danish royal family.

The city has a pedestrian street running down its centre, with many shops, restaurants, and cafes.
