Programme profile


This programme merges solid business knowledge with modern, creative, future-oriented and change-driven concepts and applications, combined with a good dose of international and cross-cultural knowledge and skills. The programme focuses on innovation in an international business context. This includes product and service innovation as well as process innovation, management innovation, sector innovation and societal innovation.

You approach the programme from three overarching perspectives: Business, Innovation and Internationalisation. Subjects in each of these include:

Business: Strategy & Marketing, Communication, HR, Operations, Finance
Innovation: Design, Concept development, Innovation strategies, Research & Discovery, Creative thinking
Internationalisation: Cultural anthropology, Global Market, Business English, International Business, Cross-cultural Communication

Programme content


During your first year, you can expect the following themes as examples of the core curriculum:

Challenges in the 21st Century :focusing on the workings of business, as a sector and as an organisational entity
Innovation: focusing on innovation strategies and methods, design, and creative thinking and reasoning)
Global Markets: focusing on globalisation and internationalisation and the impact of culture on innovation and vice versa
International Business Innovation : tying all three previous themes together in one big challenge to generate change

In the second year, the main theme is creating value through innovation, discussing topics such as 'Product, Process and Service Innovation', 'Creating Social Value', 'Entrepreneurship', 'Rethinking International Business for the 21st Century', and 'Cultural Anthropology'. You can also go abroad for a semester to a partner university

The third year focuses on leading innovation by developing a company structure and culture in which innovation can thrive. Topics include Scenario Building, Return on Innovation Spending, Innovation Metrics, Cross-cultural Management, Leadership, Change Management and Third Places. The second part of the third year includes an internship, abroad, during which you will gain experience as a junior innovator.

The fourth year revolves around the theme 'Innovation Consultancy' and your graduation project. Topics include networking, consulting skills, co-creation, conceptualising innovation, innovation systems and futuring.

Negiotiated curriculum
During your four years, you will create 25% (60 EC) of your study programme yourself by choosing from a wide array of Negotiated Learning Units. These Units are related to international business innovation, but also allow you to venture into other areas of interest such as city marketing, green business, serious game design, advertising, fundraising, graphic design, piracy laws & protection, engineering, foreign languages & culture (Chinese, Dutch, French, German, Spanish), biomimicry or web design.

Progression


The university doesn't currently offer a related Masters programme, taught through English

Entry Requirements


2 A/S Levels (grades between A and E) + 4 GCSE (grades between A and C). Subjects to include Maths.
OR: relevant BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma

Five passes at Leaving Cert (minimum 200 points) OR relevant QQi/FETAC Level 5. Subjects to include Maths.
