The Politecnico di Milano was established in 1863 as モInstituto Tecnico Superiore di Milanoヤ, before adopting its current name in 1937. The Politecnico has grown through the decades and now, with premises in seven locations, its claims to offer its students モsome of the most advanced laboratories for scientific and technological research in the worldヤ.

It currently has about 27,000 students on its 29 Bachelors and 35 Masters programmes. Seventeen of its programmes are taught through English. Interestingly, nearly one-third of Italian architects and eight of ten Italian designers graduated from the Politecnico.

Recent rankings have Politecnico as the top-ranked Technical University in Europe.
