Do you want to develop methods for better surveillance of health and environment? Then Bioscience - Molecular biodesign might be something for you!
Genetic engineering and biotechnology will have a big significance for our effort to solve today's challenges when it comes to fighting infectious and non-infectious diseases as well as environmental threats and climate change.
The objective of this programme is to provide you with a broad knowledge in molecular biology; genetic engineering, biotechnology and biodesign and combine this with innovation and entrepreneurship. You will also learn how to use modern experimental techniques and methods that are commonly used in these areas
Programme content
During the first year of study you will learn the basics in cell biology, chemistry, evolution, genetics, microbiology and sustainable development.
The second year includes a specialisation in molecular biology in general and molecular design, biomarkers and bioinformatics in particular. Here you will make use of different software for design of molecules that can be used for diagnostics, treatment of disease and drug development.
In the third year you will study project management and entrepreneurship and apply this knowledge in a molecular biodesign project. This makes this programme unique in Sweden as it stimulates entrepreneurship and innovation. Your semester is concluded with a one-semester thesis project
Entry Requirements
Three A-Levels. The university prefers Biology, Chemistry and Physics at A2 or AS.
Scottish Students are required to have a SQC with 2 Advanced Highers and at least 4 Highers. Subjects to include Maths,Biology, Chemistry and Physics
Six passes at LC., two at H5. The university prefers Biology, Chemistry and Physics at LC but may accept two from these three
