Programme profile

The programme consists of two parts: the major and the optional course profile. The major is your main area of studies, covering a maximum of three quarters of your total course profile. As for the optional course profile you are free to take the courses that suit your interests and ambitions. All students will start with a number of basic courses that together constitute the required part of the curriculum. After completing these courses you can specialise in a subject of your choice: Financial-Monetary economics, Business & Management, International Economics, Labour & Organisation, Economics & Politics or the Firm and Competition.

The programme gives students the opportunity to do an internship or a work placement in the netherlands or abroad.It also offers many opportunities for students to take part of their programme abroad.

Students can state with their application whether they wish to take the selective minor in Strategic Management. For this programme a maximum of 35 students are selected. If you are among the chosen 35, you will take economics courses in Utrecht together with Italian fellow students. For theﾠstrategic managementﾠcourses you will go to Universita LUISS Guido Carli in Rome for one year.

Programme content

Major [required courses]:
Microeconomics and Institutions; Macroeconomics; Multidiscipinary Economics Approach to Economic Growth; Institutional Economics; Financial Accounting; Introduction to Strategy and Organisation Theory; Corporate Finance; Mathematics; Statistics.

Major [electives]:
USE offers different tracks, which allow you to specialise as an economist in one of these six directions: Financial-Monetary Economics, Business & Management, International Economics, Labour & Organisation, Economics & Politics or Firm & Competition.

Optional course profile:
You can take an approved optional minor in Geography, Law or Social Sciences.These approved optional minors are coherent sets of courses, especially developed for students of Economics and Business Economics OR you can take a number of Economics modules, so that you will end up with a 100% economic profile.
