Programme profile

Biotechnologsts and bioengineers are providing answers to challenges such as climate change, increasing shortages of energy and resources, as well as health issues of an ageing population. Biotechnology is already central to our lives, allowing the production of ingredients of detergents and cosmetic products as well as active pharmaceutical ingredients, bulk chemicals, biofuels and plant cultivars.

Programme content

The programme includes both scientific and engineering disciplines. Firstly you are given an excellent grounding in natural and engineering sciences. Subsequently, the various aspects of modern biotechnology will follow, including studies in microbiology, molecular biology, bioprocess engineering as well as downstream processing. Students also acquire insight into the three branches of modern biotechnology: medical (red), agricultural (green) and industrial (white) biotechnology. These areas will be broadened through the elective subjects you choose.

In addition to biological-chemical with technical subjects students will gain core competencies in the fields of economics, management, law, communication and presentation, marketing as well as quality management.

You will have practical work experience of 8 weeks during your first three semesters, as well as a semester abroad or an internship in industry during the 6th semester.
