Programme profile

In this programme, offered by University College Groningen (UCG), you'll have the chance to study from three majors (specialisations): Sciences, Social Sciences or Humanities.

UCG uses project-based learning where your projects provide a context for experiential learning. Here, existing and new scholarship is applied to practical situations, using collaborative problem-solving skills. Studying at UCG is about creating enduring and meaningful experiences rather than memorising - and forgetting - facts., Students are deeply involved in every step of the project process: from research design to planning final project deliverables. They learn to analyse complex situations and identify the causes of problems lurking within. Then, students develop realistic and innovative recommendations and communicate those in a compelling way. Many of the projects collaborate with national and international organisations, agencies, and firms, who participate in project evaluations.

Within each major, major specialisations allow students to combine different academic disciplines or perspectives into a specific Bachelor programme that fits their interests and future plans. Thus, major specialisations are tailored programmes that fit the interest and the prospective Master choices of the major students. Major specialisations include:

- Health and Life Sciences
- Smart Technologies
- Mind, Machines and Morality
- Mind and Behaviour
- Societies and Cultures in Transition
- Philosophy, Politics and Economics
- International Relations & International Law
- International Business & Entrepreneurship
- Truth, Meaning & Rationality

There is also the possibility of a free major, in which you create your own programme (in your chosen area of Sciences, Social Sciences or Humanities) with the help and guidance from an academic tutor.

In addition to your major courses, you will continue to follow the core programme and do integrative projects with students from the other major specialisations, putting your disciplinary theory into practice within a truly interdisciplinary setting.

Tuition Fee includes standard statutory Tuition Fee of Eur 2314 plus an Institutional Fee

This programme has an 'Early Bird' Application Deadline of 15 January, which it encourages you to apply by, though you can apply until 01 May.

Double Degree Bachelor Liberal Arts and Sciences (LAS) from University College Groningen and Bachelor Philosophy, International and Economic Studies (PISE) from Ca’ Foscari University of Venice. This opportunity is especially interesting for students who wish to embark on a career in international public policy and increase their multicultural understanding of the trends in the world economy, in particular the European Community, which is essential in a globalizing world. In this respect, single disciplines can no longer answer the big questions facing leaders in the 21st Century.
