Programme profile
The academy does not structure its programme along the lines of the classical disciplines such as graphic designer, interior designer or fashion designer. Students go through eight "rotations" to expose them to various aspects of design: user-centric categories like leisure and well-being. Categories are distinguishable by their different approaches to the subject. ‘Man’ requires different characteristics for each product or service in each different context. Think of a chair in a public space, in someone’s spare time, or at work. The academy has a number of different design departments, focused on each category. The thing they all have in common is the fact that they focus on man.
Programme content
Design is learnt in the following categories: ‘Man & Activity’, ‘Man & Communication’, ‘Man & Identity’, ‘Man & Leisure’, ’Man & Living’, ‘Man & Mobility’, ‘Man & Public Space’ and ‘Man& Well-Being’.
In addition to the design departments, the programme consists of four Kompas departments: Atelier, Forum, Lab and Market. These compass points ensure that you will be considering your role as a designer and the significance of design in our society from a different perspective each time.
Market allows you to develop your personal talent into content that is suitable for business. Things such as presentation, entrepreneurship, commercial aspects and your own position as a professional are the focal points.
In Forum you will be placing design and the design profession in a socio-cultural context. You will learn to understand and interpret the times in which we live through research and reflection.
Lab is the academy’s laboratory. Here you will be conducting methodical research and performing in-depth experiments. You will learn abstract thinking and analytical methods. The central focus is on the interaction between the creator, the product and the user.
In Atelier you will learn how to think while you act. You will consider your own process and growth and become more conscious of your intuition, uniqueness and authenticity.

Entry Requirements
3 A-Levels and 3 GCSEs [In some circumstances, 2 A-Levels and 4 GCSEs will be sufficient]
Five passes at Leaving Cert (minimum 200 points) OR relevant QQi/FETAC Level 5. Subjects to include Maths.
