Slagelse, on the island of Zealand, is about 100 km (62 mi) southwest of Copenhagen. Its population is 31,979.
Slagelse is West Zealand's largest shopping town with shopping centres, cosy and attractive squares and lively café life. The town also has an active cultural life with Slagelse Teater, the region's largest auditorium, Krabasken, Denmark's largest amateur theatre and Slagelse Musikhus, with its fantastic concert hall.
