Programme profile

The goal of medical biotechnology is the replacement of damaged cells or organs, not with transplants or artificial systems like dialysis, but with the body"s own naturally grown cells. In Pharmaceutical Biotechnology you study biotech products used in pharmacy such antibiotics, insulin, specific antibodies or novel vaccines. Biotechnology offers potential solutions to many of the pressing problems current facing medicine. The development of antibodies for use in arthritis therapy, and the new technologies for skin transplants and cartilage generation have dramatically improved the quality of life of millions of patients worldwide. And these are only the first outstanding successes of a discipline that is still in its youth.

This programme provides a strong international focus on research, production, marketing and quality management for medicines and organ replacements. Biotechnology is one of the fastest growing sectors internationally, and demand is strong for qualified experts, managers and researchers.. This programme covers the fundamentals of natural sciences, biomedicine and the applicable technologies in theory and in extensive laboratory practice.
