Comparative European History is an interdisciplinary programme that teaches European history from a comparative and issue-driven perspective.
The programme focuses on a series of fundamental socio-economic, demographic, political and cultural topics that are of great relevance for societies today. Examples of topics could be migration, inclusion and persecution of minorities, religious fundamentalism, cultural appropriation, failed versus successful cases of state building and societal responses to major crises such as disease control.
The consistently comparative approach of this programme offers a valuable opportunity to study historical processes, both within Europe and beyond, that reveal both unique historical developments as well as general patterns of human behaviour and problem resolution
Programme content
Year 1:
Introduction to European Comparative History; Philosophy of History; Ancient History and Early Modern History; Writing History; Medieval History and Modern History
Years 2 & 3
In your second and third year, you tailor your curriculum to those topics within the overall programme that are most suited to your interests. The second year offers you a further deepening of the comparative historical approach via a series of thematic seminars and skill development training modules.
The third year invites you to explore a range of options that will assist you in developing your envisaged career path. In addition to a few core elements, such as think tanks with societal relevance, a semester abroad, and the concluding Bachelor’s thesis, you are free to complete your profile with additional electives

Three A-Levels (at CCC, or above) and three GCSEs, in six different subjects
Six passes at Leaving Cert, inc 2 x H5. Mon 350 points
