Programme profile

The objective of the Programme is to train a highly skilled work force for international business enterprises working with the processes of animation techniques for publication of film, television, games or various computer?based media.

The programme is designed to enable students to master theories, work methods and work techniques connected with the creative process in animation production, primarily within the drawing of 2D animation and digital 3D animation. It will also enable them to analyse and carry out animation processes with interaction between animation, dramaturgy, acting, music, technology, quality, productivity and graphics to create visual expression and communication.

Throughout the programme, students are involved in in-house and external projects, in collaboration with bodies such as the national Film School, the Academy for Digital Interactive Entertainment and La Poudriere, the French Cinema Direction School.

Programme content

Year 1: all aspects of 2D animation filmmaking. Modules in concept design, character design, layout, background, storyboarding and compositing provide the solid foundation students will need for success in completing 2D animation film production. Digital 2D animation is touched upon using relevant software and may include TVPaint, Adobe Flash and After Effects.

Year 2; 2D animation skills taken to 3D platform .With Mayaᆴ software, students re-explore the animation principles through a series of exercises from basic physical action through to advanced character acting. Students also encounter other aspects of a 3D workflow such as basic modelling, rigging, lighting and rendering.

Year 3: students from the Character Animation and Computer Graphic Artist programmes come together to form production teams to create Bachelor Projects, which may include films, games, or other creative ventures.

Year 4: a three-month internship in a production studio


The university does not currently offer a related Masters programme, taught through English

Entry Requirements

General Certificate of Education (with examination in 8 subjects where at least 3 are A-levels, alternatively 2 A-levels + 2 AS-levels. Subjects to include Maths

Six subjects at Leaving Certificate including at least two 2 at HC3. Subjects to include Maths
