Programme profile
This programme is aimed at students who are looking for answers (and debating them) to the following questions: Which political and economic ideas will determine humanity's course in the 21st century? What are the conceptual roots of current debates on collective and individual identities? How to theorize about our relationship with the planet and its ecosystems? How will religions affect our collective future? What is the place of science and scientific expertise in society? How to understand the ways in which technological advances affect our lives?
Programme content
First Year
Your first year consists of four extensive introductory courses into the rich history of Western philosophy; four systematic introductions into political philosophy, ethics, metaphysics & philosophical anthropology, and the philosophy of science; plus four courses that teach you academic methods and skills.
Second and third year
In your second and third year, you select courses belonging to various distinct modules. Each module focuses on a crucial global policy challenge for the 21st century. You will conclude your third year with a Bachelor's thesis.
For example, if you mainly interested in ecological challenges? Then follow the PPS 'Ecology and Sustainability' module, and replace one or two other modules with courses on ecosystems at the Faculty of Science and courses on sustainable entrepreneurship at the Faculty of Management. If your are more interested in human rights and global justice, you might follow the'Human Rights and Global Justice' module, and opt to supplement it with courses from our Faculty of Law.
