Programme profile


This programme, offered jointly by Wageningen University and NHTV Breda, deals with developments in tourism and the interrelationships between tourism, the economy, society and the environment.

Year 2 is run at NHTV Breda while Year 3 is run at Wageningen.

Programme content


Year 1: You will become acquainted with the disciplines of sociology, economics, geography and environmental sciences and their respective contributions to the study of tourism. The basic disciplinary courses offer an overview of core concepts, theories and authors. Courses use lectures, seminars and excursion as the main teaching methods.

Year 2: You will be introduced to development- and cross-cultural studies, organization and consumer behaviour, philosophy of science and ethics, and tourism system analysis. You will also learn about the management of tourist destinations and expand on your research skills. Year two finishes with a four-week international field practical in Southeast Asia (or another region).

Year 3:You will learn about the latest innovations in management, policy, technology and sustainability in relation to tourism. In the first part of the year, you will choose and complete a minor. You can choose, for example, a minor in international development studies, management studies or environmental science. You can also complete your minor at another university or even in another country. In the final semester of the programme, you will finish your course work and complete a Bachelor thesis

Entry Requirements


Three A-Levels (CCC) and three GCSEs, in six different subjects

Maths A level or A/S level preferred.

Six passes at Leaving Cert  (inc. two at H5,  or above). Minimum 350 points.
