Programme profile

In this programme, you will learn about the design of jewellery, materials, concepts, trends, cultural understanding, innovation, marketing and the value chain. In brief, the netire process from idea to the sale of items or a range of jewellery.

Programme content

Students are taught what function jewellery has and they are also taught about choice of material such as: stone, metal and synthetic materials. In addition students are taught about the jewellery’s form and aesthetics.

Students are taught prototype technology, production technology and they will also look at how technology can be used regardless of whether it is a one-off piece of jewellery or mass produced.

Starting with the value and supply chain you learn to analyse the business’s organisational context which you can use for concept development and optimisation of production and the logistics process.

Work placement
The trainee period in the 6th semester takes place in a relevant business, where you can try out what you have learned on the course.

- Business & Innovation
- Jewellery, concept and identity
- From idea to finished product
- Jewellery and innovation
- Business and consumers (15 ECTS)

Final project
The programme finishes with a project, where you specialise in a specific subject. The project is a continuation of the work placement which typically will form the basis of the final project.

Entry Requirements

Passes in 8 subjects where at least 3 are A-levels [alternatively 2 A-levels + 2 AS-levels, 1 A-level + 4 AS-levels] and the other subjects are at GCSE. Subjects to include Maths

Leaving Certificate, showing at least 6 subjects of which at least 2 Higher Level subjects (at least Grade C3, other subjects at least Grade D3 [Pass at A or B will be considered]. Pass Maths will be considered for Maths requirement. FETAC Level 5 Certificates and Level 6 Advanced Certificates will be considered for admission only to same study field as they would gain entry for in Ireland
