Programme profile


This programme (ITESS) is designed to equip students to with the professional skills, knowledge and competences that they need as successful teachers at international secondary schools, in which they will be qualified to teach students in the earlier years of their school education (you will work with learners in the age group between 11 and 16).

During the programme, practical experience in teaching is combined with the study of theoretical concepts and research activities that are relevant for the teaching profession. The programme includes several periods of teaching practice, through English, in international and in local school.

The programme currently has five teaching specialisations:

- Mathematics
- History
- English

- Science
- Geography
- Social Studies

Further specialisations are expected.

NHL explains how, at ITESS, they want “to train students who perform exceptionally as teachers, and who are eager to combine their careers with travel and discovery.”

Progression


There are more than 8000 international schools across the world. The pupils/students at international schools have many different nationalities. Many pupils/students have parents who work in a country for some years and then move on. In most international schools, English is the language of communication.

Entry Requirements


Two A-Levels and four GCSEs OR relevant BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma

Five passes at Leaving Cert (minimum 200 points) OR relevant QQi/FETAC Level 5. Subjects to include Maths.
