Programme profile

This programme is run at Academy Minerva. The emphasis in the programme is on Autonomy. Autonomous can be translated as free and independent. If you choose Fine Art, you are choosing to devote yourself fully - as a visual artist - to exploring your own imagination and fascinations. You will determine what to focus on, whether that's painting, drawing, graphics or photography, sculpture, media or installation art, conceptual or figurative art.

The Fine Art programme exposes you to all aspects of professional art: from developing ideas and the artistic process, to creating, presenting and organising your work. The aim of the course is to develop your qualities as a visual artist to enable to make a personal, critical and inventive contribution to the professional field.

Programme content

Each year consists of two semesters of 16 weeks concludes with a group work review and a project week or excursion week. Central to our curriculum is your own work, made in the studio. You will be confronted with a wide variety of approaches to art, concepts, mediums, materials and techniques. You will learn to reflect on our own work and that of others.

During the first two years you will carry out assignments to gain knowledge and skills. You will also work independently to fully develop and explore your own artistic process. In the third year you will focus on your personal development as an artist in the studio. The final year is all about defining who you are as an artist and the uniqueness and quality of your work. You will write a final thesis and artistic statement and take part in a joint exhibition with your fellow student.

The Professional Preparation module plays an important role in the third and fourth years. Familiarising yourself with professional practice in all its facets is central to the programme. Throughout the programme, there is intensive mentoring from a variety of teachers.
