Programme profile

This programme will give you the broad biological and chemical knowledge required  to evaluate, understand solve a wide range of biomedical problems. The programme is delivered in an active and dynamic research environment and ensures ongoing contact and interaction with the front-line of biomedical research. The programme contains both basic scientific education and medically oriented modules. Students are given laboratory practices and training in scientific methods, and are introduced to clinically oriented research.

As biomedicine is an international subject and has an international work arena students are encouraged to study part of the programme at one of the Institutet’s international partner universities.

Programme content

Year 1: Introduction to biomedical science; General and organic chemistry; Medical biochemistry: Cell biology and Genetics

Year 2: Infection and immunity; Integrative physiology; Neuroscience; Tissue biology; Pharmacology with toxicology; Biostatistics

Year 3: Molecular oncology and biostatistics; Molecular medicine; Degree project


This programme provides an excellent basis to continue to master’s level, and is specifically connected to the international master’s programmes in biomedicine, bioentrepreneurship and toxicology at Karolinska Institutet

Entry Requirements

Three A-Levels  [Biology, Chemistry & Maths] plus an extra A/S level and 3 GCSEs.

Scottish Students are required to have a SQC with 2 Advanced Highers and at least 4 Highers. Subjects to include Maths, Biology and Chemistry.

Six Passes at Leaving Certificate at Higher level. Subjects to include Higher Biology, Chemistry, & Maths.
