Programme profile

Creative Technology is a challenging programme, in which you will learn to develop innovative applications while using the latest technology. The programme combines many disciplines and prepares you to become a designer in digital technology.

In this programme you will learn to create smart ideas and learn to break established patterns of thinking and make room for new ideas. You will learn to visualise complex situations and use your creativity to design smart solutions. You will learn to use intelligent systems to make your design interact with its environment. You may also need robotics to make your design operate by itself. You will learn how to program digital systems, to control your design and to make it interact with its users.

In this programme, you will learn to be a designer who can blend function and visual appeal, to be attractive to its users. You learn how to develop business plans, to perform market research and to translate innovations into profitable opportunities. With Creative Technology you will not only have the skills and knowledge to start a business, you will also have a great portfolio of your designs to show!

Programme content

In Year 1 you learn about systems. A typical system for the Creative Technologist is the Smart Environment. It is a large structure, which has been made intelligent by man. Think of a forest equipped with sensors to detect fire, or a coral reef that can detect pollution. In the first year you learn about such Smart Environments. You will also learn about the internet. not only about how it works, but also how to create interactive web applications. You also learn programming. Finally you learn about classical design issues.

In Year 2 you go deeper into issues which were raised in the first year. You choose a specialisation: either Smart Technology (systems, signals and smart environments) or New Media (web, games, visualization). You will also be introduced to business subjects such as marketing and business plans.

Half of Year 3 can be spent on your personal development by studying abroad, or taking extra modules in Twente. The third year ends with your Bachelor"s Project, a design project which takes place at the university itself, or in an organisation outside of the university
