Programme profile


The food industry is the largest business sector in the world. Research and development of new products is important in order to maintain an effective competitive position and respond to consumer demand. The study of food technology is what supplies the knowledge for this ongoing process.

Students can opt for a minor specialisation in Nutrition and Health which provides students with the basic knowledge on how nutrition influences health.

Programme content


The first year includes four subjects specific to food technology, and the remainder are mostly core subjects in mathematics, chemistry, physics and biology. The second year consists primarily of specialist subjects in food technology. The third year includes only one compulsory subject, and the rest of the year is made up of electives and your thesis

In the Nutrition & Health minor, students will study:
- Introduction to Epidemiology and Public Health
- Nutrition Behaviour
- Food Components and Health
- Principles of Human Physiology
- Pharmacology and Nutrition

Entry Requirements


Three A-Levels CCC (subjects to inc. Maths, Chemistry AND Biology OR Physics)

Six passes at Leaving Cert (inc. two at H5,  or above). Subjects to include Maths, Chemistry PLUS Biology or Physics
