Programme profile


This programme is recognised by the European Association of Establishments for Veterinary Education (EAEVE) and the Advisory Committee on Veterinary Training, among others. FVM administers the programme with the co-operation of the Faculty of Veterinary Hygiene and Ecology (FVHE) and the Pharmaceutical Faculty of the UVPS Brno. Today, there are more than 700 students in the D.V.M. programme. The degree programme provides a global education in the field of diagnostics, therapy and prevention of contagious and non-contagious diseases of animals, and basic knowledge of animal origin and food hygiene.

Programme content


1st Year: Students develop a basic understanding of the Life Sciences underpinning veterinary medicine and become familiar with veterinary and medical terms.

2nd Year: Students delve more deeply into the Life Sciences, particularly anatomy, physiology and veterinary genetics. Students start studying microbiology and learn about animal nutrition and feeding.

3rd Year: Students work in the field with animals to support their classroom learning in toxicology, animal hygiene and pharmacology. Students are exposed to imaging diagnostics, and focus on clinical diagnostics and treatment of diseases.

4th Year: Students continue working in the field, honing their skills and learning new ones as they work on a variety of animals, from small mammals to ruminants and swine.

5th Year: Surgery techniques become a main focus as students investigate various animal diseases as well as learn animal obstetrics and gynaecology.

6th Year: Students finish higher-level courses and prepare for, and take, obligatory state examinations

Progression


This programme is recognised by the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons for registration to practise as a vet in the UK and Ireland.
