Riga Stradins University [RSU] is a public university. It was founded in 1950, as the Riga Medical Institute, and received full university status in 2002. RSU offers programmes in medicine and health care studies, as well as social sciences. RSU has a total of approximately 7,000 students, the majority of which are full-time students. The university has a significant number of international students, currently standing at more than 20% of the total student body. In the Faculty of Medicine, where the majority of international students study, the number of international students stands over 50%. The majority of international students studying at RSU are from Germany, Sweden, Norway, Finland and the UK.

The RSU student hostel is located in the “Agenskalns” district, and it is a 5 minute walking distance away from the Stradins Hospital, and 20 minutes away from the RSU Main building. There are good public transport connections, and the Old Town, too, is approximately 20 minutes away.
