City profile

Montpellier is the capital of the Languedoc-Roussillon region, located on the south coast of France on the Mediterranean Sea. It is the 8th largest city of France, and is also the fastest growing city in the country over the past 25 years.

With its narrow medieval narrow streets, a City Hall designed by the most celebrated architect in France, Jean Nouvel, and the 2 new tramway lines designed by Christian Lacroix, the designer chic of the city promoted the New York Times [Jan 2012] to name it as one of the world’s top 45 places to visit.
