The University of Applied Sciences, Wiener Neustadt was established in 1994 as the first of its kind [Fachhochschule] in Austria. The university was founded by a team of highly experienced Viennese university professors and well-known major players in higher education who, according to the university, had the objective of challenging the traditional universities with new teaching and university management methods.

The university is internationally recognised as one of the top institutions of its kind. With about 3500 students, it is the largest University of Applied Sciences in Austria.The University of Applied Sciences, Wiener Neustadt currently consists of five faculties: Business, Engineering, Health, Sport, Security.
