Programme profile

This programme is run at the School for New Dance Development (SNDO). It is for students with previous dance training, who have started developing their own work or have had some performance experience.

The school was founded in 1975 as an attempt to find new directions for dance next to the existing forms and styles that dominated the field. After forty years, the SNDO remains inquisitive, open minded, and in the foreground of progressive developments in the fields of dance and performance.

In the curriculum, the school establishes the conditions from which the creativity of the student can emerge. Reflection on the specific qualities of dance and performance as art forms is developed, and awareness of the body and the artistic implications of working with it take precedence.

SNDO seeks to support the student in connecting to their individual source as an artist and in finding what their individual contribution to the development of dance as an art form can be. The school educates artistically talented people in such a way that they are able to work independently and professionally in the field of dance and performance. The school aims toward graduates being able to sustain the production of their work independently. Each student is required to complete the course requirements, which are based on the elements needed to develop professional performance work.

The emphasis of the courses is on the making of dance performances through a balanced programme of theoretical and physical classes.
