Programme profile


This programme trains you to be a versatile dancer with a distinctive style. It equips you to actively participate in the creative process and collaborate with different choreographers. You will gain ownership of a contemporary dance repertory and dance vocabulary that enables you to participate in productions of contemporary dance companies at home and abroad.

During the programme. students will immerse themselves in various contemporary dance styles along with academic dance at an advanced technical level. This will help our students become a multi-talented dancer who feels at home with modern and contemporary dance ensembles both here and abroad. Their command of a broad, contemporary repertoire and dance vocabulary, such as Emio Greco, Anne Teresa de Keersmaeker, Ohad Naharin, LeineRoebana, Club Guy & Roni, Conny Janssen, plus a personal style of performing makes the MTD-student specially suited to participate in demanding productions.

Programme content


During the first two years of the programme, emphasis lies on developing the necessary dance technical skills and building up a dance vocabulary based on classical ballet and contemporary dance, off the floor and from a standing position.

Lessons in improvisation, composition, partner work, contact improvisation, movement research, movement analysis, physical theatre, drama, music, dance history, philosophy, dance health, Alexander technique and contemporary repertoire ensure a deeper and broader development of your skills towards becoming a versatile, accomplished and excellent dancer/dance performer. In addition, the students work with guest choreographers in creating new work.In the past few years students worked with among others Lucinda Childs, Trisha Brown, Maja Delak, Liat Waysbort, Quan Bui Ngoc, Nicole Beutler en Itamar Serussi.
