Programme profile
The purpose of the programme is to qualify graduates to be able to independently plan, manage and perform technical and administrative work in design and execution within the area of building construction and civil engineering.
The programme is combination of theory lectures and project work within the following areas:Building Design, Construction Technology, Structural Design, Building Services and Installations, Building Planning and Costing and Management.
The programme is delivered through Project Based Learning (PBL). PBL is designed to encourage you and your group to think and work independently and to take a high degree of responsibility for your studies and learning processes. You will learn how to work not just as an individual, but also as member of a group where teamwork, cooperation and communication are essential tools to succeed. The programme includes a work placement.
The programme is accredited by the UK Chartered Institute of Architectural Technologists
Programme content
The programme is organised within the following core areas:
1 General, including communication, knowledge theory, work methodology, organisation, cooperation,information technology, innovation, numeracy and applied maths & physics, and foreign languages.
2 Business, including the operation of businesses, administration, legislation and law
3 Production, including construction and civil engineering work, production and project management.
4 Design, including construction, design, and project management.
5 Registration, including surveying, the layout of buildings and structures, and the structural evaluation of buildings and structures.

Entry Requirements
General Certificate of Education (with examination in 8 subjects where at least 3 are A-levels, alternatively 2 A-levels + 2 AS-levels. Subjects to include Maths
Leaving Certificate, showing at least 6 subjects of which at least 2 Higher Level subjects (at least Grade C3, other subjects at least Grade D3 [Pass at A or B will be considered]. Pass Maths will be considered for Maths requirement. FETAC Level 5 Certificates and Level 6 Advanced Certificates will be considered for admission only to same study field as they would gain entry for in Ireland
