With over 100 000 inhabitants, Lahti is the ninth largest city in Finland.

It is big on environmental issues and is a renowned centre for design. It is currently growing a strong reputation for cultural events, largely based on it being the home of Sibelius, the Finnish composer. It also hosts a range of world class winter sporting events, including the Lahti Ski Games
