This programme trains engineers of medical physical technologies, who can work at health care institutions – hospitals, health centres, rehabilitation institutions, specialization centres, laboratories as attendants of medical devices or managers, certification and control institutions, manufactories, projecting and scientific institutions. Engineers of medical physical technologies can design and improve devices, equipment and instruments, have a good knowledge about physical and technological principles of medical equipment, as well as design and manufacturing technologies, can organize arrangements of safety in medical institutions, collaborate in selection of equipment and systems, can perform planning and control of radiation technologies, can implement dosimetry for patients, organize service, control and testing of medical equipment.

The programme is designed to meet the future need for medical care to be provided through an efficient health care system, which makes use of state-of-the-art technical equipment in prevention, diagnosis, and therapy. In comparison to other international examples, the RTU programme isinterdisciplinary covering both medical engineering and medical physics disciplines. The programme is delivered in cooperation with Riga Stradins University, the university preparing specialists in medicine. Medical Engineering and Physics is a diverse and exciting programme that covers the research and analysis of many of the latest advances in medicine.
