Founded in 1907, it is one of France's "Grandes écoles", an institute of higher education linked to public education with very strict admission requirements, and is known as one of the "trois Parisiennes" (three Parisians), along with ESCP and HEC Paris. 

In 2020, it was ranked 6th best European Business School, by the Financial Times.

It is currently only one of seven French Business Schools with the coveted 5 Palmes ranking as a Universal Business School with strong global influence.

The School is accredited by AACSB, EQUIS and AMBA.

GEM currently has just over 5000 students, following undergraduate, masters and doctoral programmes.
