University of Amsterdam

With nearly 30,000 students, the University of Amsterdan [UvA] is one of the four 'classical' universities in the Netherlands. UvA continues a tolerant, open and international academic tradition dating back to 1632. The University is one of the top-ranked Universties in Europe.

UvA has one of the largest numbers of international Master's study programmes of any university in Europe, with over 100 taught in English. In addition, it has two Bachelors programmes taught through English [including the Liberal Arts and Sciences programme at Amsterdam University College]

Study programmes at the UvA offer a high level of autonomy. Respect for each individual's opinions and convictions are central in the diverse and plural society in the Netherlands. This leads to an interactive teaching style encouraging students to develop self reliance and independent thought.

The university is housed in both old and modern buildings, most of which are located in the historic city centre. The combination of beautiful historical buildings andᅠstate-of-the-art facilities is part of the unique character of UvA.

Courses offered through English

Like most Dutch universities, the University of Amsterdam does not have a campus, and demand for student housing in Amsterdam is very high. It is a challenge to find suitable accommodation, and therefore it is important to arrange your accommodation as soon as possible. To assist international students in finding appropriate accommodation, the university has signed agreements with various housing corporations. In total the UvA has more than 1700 rooms to allot to international students.
