Iasi
Iasi
City profile
Iași, in Moldavia, with a population of over half a million in its urban area, is the second largest urban area in Romania. Home to the oldest Romanian university, Iași is one of the most important education and research centres of the country. With over 60,000 students studying in five public universities, it is most definitely a student city, with the associated social, artistic and cultural buzz (and, of course, a hectic night life!).
Located in the North-East of Romania, the city lies on the Bahlui River valley.. The surrounding country is one of uplands and woods, featuring monasteries and parks. Iași itself stands amid vineyards and gardens, partly on hills, partly in the in-between valley
